Recycle for WEAVE - Blog

Recycle forWEAVE  //  Recycle for WEAVE is a fundraiser created by college students from around the Sacramento area, asking community members to donate their bottles and cans (plastic and glass). The recyclables are cashed in, and proceeds from the donations go directly to WEAVE (Women Escaping A Violent Environment). WEAVE is an incredible foundation that, with our help, can continue to serve others in need. Donating recyclables is an easy, simple, and NO cost way to help others and to give back to the community. Our mission is to collect as many recyclables as possible to help WEAVE flourish, as we believe it is a priceless organization that truly exists to better peoples' lives. Do not throw your recyclables away, we ask that you collect them and contact us whenever you want them to be picked up. We have several businesses and people throughout Sacramento that have agreed to donate their recyclables, but we are hoping to keep this number growing. Please save your recyclables; it is good for the environment, it is good for the community, and it is invaluable to WEAVE.
Thank you for your support.

Recycle for WEAVE Internships

Recycle for WEAVE now offers several internship opportunities that have flexible hours and provide excellent leadership roles within the community. Interns are not expected to have significant work or volunteer experience, we simply ask for committed students with a passion to help others. Internships with RFW are a great way to get involved with the community, gain volunteer and leadership experience, develop team work skills, and communicational skills. Hours worked per week are contingent on personal availability.Once applications are submitted, an interview will be scheduled promptly, as we are eager to expand the RFW team.  Interns will be a significant part of the RFW team and can expect to assist with extending the network of donors, collecting recyclables, sorting donations, managing direction of the organization, building rapport with the community, and involving others with RFW. Interns must live within the greater Sacramento area. Applications are available below in the form of a PDF and Word file. Please email the completed application to RecycleforWEAVE@gmail.comas an attached document. Any questions, please feel free to emailRecycleforWEAVE@gmail.com, we will respond as soon as possible.

Cashed our recyclables!!

Today, after begging my dad to let me use his truck, Ife, Evan, and I headed out to North Highlands to cash our donated recyclables. We had an entire minivan and the back of a large Ford truck full of cans, bottles, and assorted glass. We stuffed the truck so full that I could not see the cars behind me out of the review mirror. It was like a little mountain that filled the truck. A bit nervous, yet optimistic, we pulled into the recycle center and unloaded. After about an hour or so we had unloaded and sorted everything. It was a long process. In the end, we received about $250 for our recyclables, which we were more than excited about. Now, with our previous collections combined with our newly earned $250, we are ready to donate. In total we will be donating about $400 to WEAVE!!!

Help us keep up the steam, and let us know if you have any recyclables to donate!!

On the grind

Again today we sorted through bags full of recyclables. Lots of bags.

On Tuesday we are cashing the recyclables in, and we are hoping for a good turn out. The more money we get, the more we donate! Currently, we have about half of a single car garage filled with recyclables--thats a lot of bottles and cans. Here are some pictures.
